Hunters agency raises over £21,500 for Nikki Waterhouse Trust

Hunters staff, suppliers and local community members raised more than £21,500 for The Nikki Waterhouse Trust through several fundraising events in Yorkshire during summer 2026.

Hunters estate and letting agency led a series of charitable activities from July to August, culminating in a golf day that attracted 24 teams and generated the bulk of the funds. The money will support children and families benefiting from the Trust’s work across the UK.

The fundraising began with the York Rotary Dragonboat Challenge in July, where the Hunters team raised £4,240.21. In August, a sponsored run by former Hunters employee Katy Huscroft contributed £1,500. The annual Hunters Nikki Waterhouse Trust Golf Day at Easingwold Golf Club raised £15,762.54, thanks to participants, sponsors and auction prizes.

Details of the fundraising events and contributions

The York Rotary Dragonboat Challenge saw Hunters’ Nikki Waterhouse Trust team compete under sunny conditions, raising over four thousand pounds. Although they did not win the race, Hunters aimed to maintain its status as the event’s largest fundraiser, a title held for two consecutive years.

Katy Huscroft, associated with Goodmove and formerly with Hunters, undertook a sponsored run in support of the Trust, achieving personal bests and raising £1,500. The summer’s fundraising efforts peaked with the golf day, which included a Pimm’s bar, raffle and auction.

Twenty-four teams comprising Hunters employees, suppliers and local residents participated in the golf day. Hunters Wetherby won the top team award, while Hunters Ilkley received the Best Turned Out Team award, introduced in memory of Michael Naughton, a former Hunters employee and supporter of the Trust.

Support from sponsors such as HomeLet, Rightmove, Simply Conveyancing, GOTO Group, Yorkshire Fleet and Ignite was instrumental in the event’s success. Their contributions included hole sponsorship and prizes, enhancing the fundraising total.

Context of charitable activity in the letting sector

Charitable fundraising within the letting and estate agency sector is a notable way for firms to engage with their communities and support vulnerable groups. The Nikki Waterhouse Trust focuses on helping children and families, a cause that resonates with many in the property industry.

While this activity does not directly affect tenancy law or landlord obligations, it reflects the sector’s social responsibility and community involvement. Agencies often balance commercial operations with charitable efforts, which can enhance their reputation and stakeholder relations.

For landlords and letting agents, involvement in or support of such initiatives can foster goodwill and community ties, which may indirectly benefit business operations and tenant relationships.

Implications for landlords and letting agents

Though fundraising is voluntary and outside regulatory requirements, landlords and agents can consider how participating in or supporting charitable causes aligns with their business values. It can improve local community engagement and tenant satisfaction.

Such activities may also provide networking opportunities with suppliers and other industry stakeholders, potentially leading to collaborative benefits. For small portfolio landlords, supporting local charities can enhance their profile and demonstrate commitment beyond property management.

Moreover, charitable events may offer informal platforms to discuss sector challenges and share best practices, which can be valuable in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment.

Considerations for those interested in charitable involvement

Landlords and agents interested in similar charitable activities should assess the time and resource commitments involved and identify causes that align with their values and business ethos. Establishing partnerships with local charities can be a meaningful way to contribute.

It is advisable to ensure any fundraising or charitable events comply with relevant laws and regulations, including those related to health and safety and data protection. Keeping clear records and documentation of such activities is prudent.

Those considering fundraising should also communicate transparently with tenants and stakeholders about their involvement, ensuring it does not interfere with tenancy management obligations.

Supporting landlords with compliance and record-keeping

The Landlord Association (TLA) offers membership that includes access to compliance resources and organisational tools that can assist landlords and letting agents in managing property records and documenting activities, including charitable events. TLA’s new property management and compliance platform, ORBIT, is currently available in BETA testing and aims to help members keep rental documents and records organised.

ORBIT’s features under development include the ability to record key actions and maintain evidence of compliance activity, which can be extended to track community involvement and charitable contributions. Access to TLA’s compliance resources can also help members stay informed about regulatory developments that may impact their operations.

Exploring TLA membership and ORBIT BETA access can provide landlords and agents with practical support in maintaining thorough records and managing their portfolios effectively while engaging in broader community initiatives.

Looking ahead, charitable engagement by letting agents and landlords may continue to grow as part of wider social responsibility efforts within the sector. This trend complements the increasing focus on transparency and community relations in property management.
