Regional lettings firm Henry Adams acquired by corporate group LRG

Regional lettings firm Henry Adams acquired by corporate group LRG

LRG is set to complete the acquisition of Henry Adams’ sales, lettings and holiday cottages businesses on 1 September. The deal retains the Henry Adams brand and local teams, expanding LRG’s presence in southern England.

LRG, a corporate property group, will take over the core residential and holiday lettings arms of Henry Adams, a well-established regional agency with 12 branches across Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire. The acquisition excludes Henry Adams’ Fine Art, Land and Planning, Rural, Valuations and Commercial divisions, which will remain separate.

The Henry Adams brand, which dates back to 1826 under its original name Wyatt & Son, will continue operating under its current name and management. The existing leadership and local teams are to be retained, with two franchise branches continuing under their franchise agreements. LRG described the acquisition as a strategic move to strengthen its footprint in the south of England and support sustainable growth of the Henry Adams brand.

Details of the acquisition and corporate strategy

Henry Adams has a long heritage, celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2026, and is recognised for strong local knowledge and client relationships. LRG’s Group Mergers & Acquisitions Director, Matthew Light, emphasised the importance of preserving the Henry Adams identity and reputation while integrating the business into LRG’s portfolio.

Ian Wiggett, Managing Director at Henry Adams, highlighted that the shareholders sought a partner who valued the company’s unique qualities and would protect its name and people. He noted that the acquisition would open new opportunities for the brand and provide enhanced training, development and career progression for staff.

The deal forms part of LRG’s broader strategy to acquire high-quality regional property businesses with growth potential. The company aims to build a stronger presence across key regional markets by combining local expertise with corporate resources.

Implications for landlords and letting agents

For landlords and agents working with Henry Adams, the acquisition means continuity in service and local expertise, with the reassurance of backing from a larger corporate group. Retaining the existing teams and brand identity should help maintain tenant and landlord confidence during the transition.

LRG’s involvement may bring more investment in technology, training and operational support, which could improve efficiency and compliance. However, landlords should monitor any changes in management practices or service offerings that might affect tenancy management, rent collection or property standards.

For smaller regional agents, this acquisition underscores the ongoing consolidation trend in the lettings sector, where corporate groups are expanding by acquiring established local firms. This may impact competition and service models in regional markets over time.

What landlords and agents should consider now

Landlords should review their agreements and communication channels with Henry Adams to understand any operational changes following the acquisition. It is advisable to confirm who will manage their properties and how compliance with safety, licensing and tenancy regulations will be maintained under new ownership.

Letting agents should watch for possible shifts in corporate policies or technology platforms introduced by LRG that could affect day-to-day management. Maintaining clear records and ensuring all tenancy documentation remains up to date will be important during the transition.

Both landlords and agents should stay informed about any updates from Henry Adams or LRG regarding service changes or compliance obligations. Checking official guidance and seeking advice if unsure about new procedures will help avoid disruption.

Keeping your rental properties compliant with changing agency ownership

Membership of The Landlord Association (TLA) can support landlords and agents through transitions like the Henry Adams acquisition. TLA offers practical compliance resources and document support to help maintain up-to-date tenancy agreements, safety certificates and licensing records amid operational changes.

LRG’s acquisition highlights the importance of organised property management. TLA’s new property management and compliance platform, ORBIT, currently available in BETA testing, is designed to help landlords and agents keep all rental documents, records and compliance information in one place. Features in testing include managing rental documents, recording key actions such as repairs and inspections, and accessing TLA’s compliance resources.

Exploring TLA membership and ORBIT BETA access can provide reassurance and practical tools to manage rental portfolios effectively during periods of agency ownership change and sector consolidation.

As the lettings sector continues to evolve, staying organised and informed will be vital to meeting regulatory requirements and maintaining positive landlord-tenant relationships.
