Two prominent industry bodies have joined forces to strengthen the voice of the private rented sector in the UK. The National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA) has taken over responsibility for The Lettings Industry Council (TLIC), aiming to provide more effective representation for landlords and letting agents.
NRLA assumes leadership of The Lettings Industry Council
The NRLA will now manage the secretariat of TLIC, an organisation that brings together a broad spectrum of lettings professionals. This includes industry bodies, schemes, service providers for both landlords and tenants, as well as representatives from large and smaller lettings agencies. By combining resources, the two bodies intend to amplify their influence within the sector.
Championing landlords and letting agents
Both organisations have emphasised their commitment to advocating for the concerns of landlords and agents, particularly in discussions with policymakers. Ben Beadle, chief executive of the NRLA, highlighted the shared vision: “The NRLA and TLIC are long-standing supporters of greater professionalisation across the private rented sector, so uniting to champion the fantastic work responsible landlords and letting agents do for our sector is a no-brainer.”
He added, “Together, we will continue to support the highly impactful work undertaken to date and fight for a better, fairer, more prosperous PRS which works in the interests of all.” This collaboration aims to ensure that the sector’s voice is heard clearly in government circles, reflecting the challenges and aspirations of those involved in private renting.
Building a lettings market that works for all
Theresa Wallace, chair of TLIC, expressed her confidence in the partnership. “I have worked closely with Ben and the NRLA team for many years, and they share many of TLIC’s views when it comes to the need to build a lettings market which works for both landlords and agents.”
She noted that TLIC’s consensus-based, cross-industry approach has already contributed significantly to the rented accommodation sector. With the NRLA’s support, she believes their combined efforts will provide even greater assistance to members and enhance the sector’s role in housing delivery.
What this means for landlords
For landlords, this partnership signals a more unified and influential representation within the private rented sector. By consolidating expertise and advocacy efforts, the NRLA and TLIC can better address regulatory challenges and promote professional standards. This collaboration is likely to facilitate more effective communication with government bodies, potentially influencing policy decisions that affect landlords’ operations and profitability.
Moreover, landlords can expect enhanced support from a sector-wide organisation that understands the complexities of the market and is committed to fostering a fairer, more prosperous environment for all stakeholders.
