About Us
The Landlord Association is a national, independent body committed to upholding legal standards and promoting best practices across the UK rental sector. We support both landlords and tenants by providing clear, impartial guidance grounded in current legislation, regulatory obligations, and real-world casework.
Our association recognises that successful tenancies depend on mutual understanding, lawful conduct, and accessible support. Landlords must navigate complex legal frameworks while maintaining habitable, compliant properties. Tenants, in turn, are entitled to safe housing, fair treatment, and a clear understanding of their rights and responsibilities.
Through our legal resources, dispute resolution support, and policy insight, we help bridge the gap between both sides of the rental agreement. We advocate for transparency, professionalism, and accountability—empowering our members and the wider rental community to resolve disputes constructively and uphold the integrity of the private housing market.
As an impartial organisation, we are not here to take sides—we are here to promote lawful, balanced outcomes that contribute to a more stable, equitable rental system across the UK.

Our Background & History
Founded in 2001 by Family Law Specialist, Daniel J. Francis, KC, The Landlord Association (TLA) was established in response to growing complexity and tension within the UK rental sector. At the time, both landlords and tenants were navigating a rapidly changing legal environment—marked by evolving housing legislation, stricter enforcement of property standards, and a need for greater transparency in tenancy agreements.
Recognising a gap in the market for an impartial, legally focused organisation that could support both parties, a group of housing professionals, legal practitioners, former TDS personnel and property compliance experts came together to create TLA. Their shared goal was to professionalise landlord-tenant relationships by offering structured guidance, legal education, and informed commentary that would help prevent disputes and promote compliance across the board.
Over the past two decades, The Landlord Association has grown to become a trusted advisory body, known for its commitment to evidence-based guidance, legal integrity, and neutrality. We are not a lobbying organisation, nor do we serve the interests of one group over another. Instead, we act as a bridge between landlords and tenants, focusing on statutory compliance, dispute resolution, and raising standards through responsible practice.
Our work has helped thousands of landlords navigate regulatory obligations, while also empowering tenants to understand and assert their rights under housing law. We work closely with legal advisors, housing charities, local authorities, and recognised tenancy deposit schemes to ensure our materials and recommendations align with current legislation and national best practice.
As we continue into our third decade, TLA remains committed to clarity, fairness, and the rule of law—supporting a UK rental market where tenancies succeed through respect, compliance, and mutual accountability.
