The Renters’ Rights Act is set to come into force on 1 May 2026, marking the most significant legal change for landlords in a generation. Many landlords remain uncertain about the specific actions they must take now to ensure compliance and avoid future complications.
Upcoming Masterclass to Clarify New Legal Requirements
In response to widespread confusion, specialist landlord and tenant lawyer Tessa Shepperson will host a comprehensive three-hour Renters’ Rights Act Masterclass on 21 April 2026. This session aims to provide landlords with clear, practical guidance on the changes coming into effect from 1 May.
The masterclass will cover the precise legal changes, deadlines for compliance, strategies to avoid fines, and practical tenancy management techniques under the new regime. Unlike theoretical discussions, the session promises a straightforward approach focused on real-world implications for landlords.
Details of the Masterclass
The event will run online from 9.00 am to 12.15 pm, including a 15-minute comfort break. It is free for members of Landlord Law, replacing their usual 1.5-hour training session, while non-members can attend for £40 including VAT. Alternatively, non-members may join Landlord Law from £25 to £30 per month with no minimum term, gaining free access to the masterclass and other member resources.
Business-level members will also have access to a recording of the session after the event. Attendees who participate fully will receive a certificate recognising three hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Supporting Resources and Expertise
Tessa Shepperson brings over 25 years of experience as a landlord and tenant lawyer and runs the Landlord Law online information service. She is currently drafting a new tenancy agreement compliant with the Renters’ Rights Act, which will be made available to members. This resource aims to assist landlords in adapting their documentation to meet the new legal standards.
Even landlords who have already undertaken some training on the Act are encouraged to attend, as the scale and complexity of the changes mean that a thorough understanding is essential to avoid pitfalls.
What this means for landlords
The Renters’ Rights Act introduces sweeping reforms that will affect tenancy agreements, landlord responsibilities, and compliance obligations. Landlords must act promptly to understand and implement the new requirements to avoid penalties and manage tenancies effectively under the updated legal framework.
Engaging with detailed training such as this masterclass will help landlords navigate the transition smoothly, ensuring they remain compliant and minimise risks associated with the changes.
